The had a major upgrade to its hardware on 21st December 2013. The old $30 Pentium that used to host webserver and database has been replaced with two server cubes, both running ubuntu on AMD cores. New disk arrays are installed in both. The old web-server hardware will not go to waste – it will be configured as a hardened reverse-proxy to add an extra layer of security and convenience.

The entire operation took less than three hours. One hour to rack and cable, one hour to install the software, and a final hour to configure and move the content. Downtime of the website was limited to the couple of minutes required to switch and test the routing to the new web-server host.

Happy browsing – webmaster
